[He wears a smile, calm and cheerful. But beneath that oh-so-thin layer of calm friendliness, there was a strange spark to his eyes, a smoldering flame ignited within by some unknown catalyst. Emotion invoked by something he could not, would not stand for.]

[This one Doctor--who had seen the death of civilizations and the end of the universe, witnessed the genocide of the Daleks and rewritten the decimation of the human race...this man whose true name existed only in the stars of the Medusa Cascade--was angry.]

I'm looking for a lovely young woman called Dahlia.

[And the fury of a Time Lord was not to be taken lightly.]

...that's news to me. Granted, I don't know him all that well. Either way, revenge isn't right. Never is. Why stoop to their level, right?

What's normal for you humans....the usual authorities, right? Police force or something?

[He's a little intrigued now, but he won't pursue this until after this whole mess blows over]

I'm not sure how things works here, actually. [He pauses] I come from from the past, and these matters are usually handled by the king.

I've handled Sontaran soldiers, platoons of Judoon, deluges of Daleks, but I'm not entirely sure how to deal with an ordinary human criminal.

Ah, good old monarchies.Off with her head and that lot. Not quite as simple here, I'd say. Regardless of how she's taken care of, we have to find her first.

No, things are never that simple. [He exhales slowly]

Will you be handling things with her, then? I'm afraid I'm headed toward Cherrygrove to find a friend and I won't be back in Violet for a while.

[He gives the Doctor a short nod] Good luck finding her. From what my friend has told me, she'll be incredibly hard to pin down.

I'm going to do my best. Which, just between us, is pretty good.

As long as I can stop anyone from killing her in revenge, I'll count that as a victory. Better if I can find a way to stop her from doing this again.

You might have some trouble with keeping his friends from her. [He knows exactly how far people will go for revenge, and Phoenix had quite a few friends here in Johto]

Would you mind keeping me updated on the situation? [He hates to admit it, but there really isn't much he can do to help without his magic]

I'll stop them. Believe me, I will stop them.

I suppose I'll do what I can, ah...who are you again?

[He nods again, slowly, since the man seems incredibly sure of himself] I'll leave it in your hands, then.

I'm Merlin. What do I call you?

I'm the Doctor...

...wait, Merlin?

Merlin.

You're putting me on.

Erm...yes? [Pause] Why would I be putting you on?

Because you're saying you're Merlin.

[He'll be taking a moment to fangasm. You know you've made it when the Doctor is just short of making a 'squee' noise.]

Don't tell me, you're skipping off to meet King Arthur? Oh, that would be brilliant, really brilliant.

[A long-suffering look briefly crosses his face]

Prince Arthur. He's not the king just yet.

You. Are. Joking.

[If this smile got any bigger, the Doctor's head might explode.]

...is it really so hard to believe?

[He wonders if he needs to get used to this sort of attention from the rest of the Johto trainers. It's...a bit terrifying]

Not at all, but it's brilliant. Past brilliant, it's amazing. You, you're someone I've never met before, and I've met everyone.

[It's hard not to smile in the face of such enthusiasm]

Oh, I say so. I definitely, definitely say so.

I'll let you know what's going on, but I'd hope to hear from you and Arthur. I bet he's brilliant, is he? Must be, he's Arthur.

[Soft huff of laughter] He was a bit of a prat when I met him, actually. [He pauses, then says softly:] But, yes...I suppose he is sort of brilliant now.

[He shakes himself out of his thoughts and nods] I'll contact you as soon as I can.
