☄ 021; [video; dated to 12/25]

[The video turns on to a very, very smug Eleven, chuckling away about something or other.]

Right, right, another Christmas come and gone--going, really--with no sign of any catastrophe. No Sycorax, Sontarans, Slyther, Silurians? No Cybermen, Cyberleaders, Cyberkings, Cyber-we-need-to-think-of-better-names? Not even a single Dalek or even an Angel to be seen, which is really not any reassurance now that I think of it. Forget that bit, that bit's rubbish.

But. And this is the important bit, listen to this bit.

[He leaned in almost conspiratorially, grinning all the same as he did. In the background, an Abra was busy sticking his face into the bag of berries that came with the care package.]

It doesn't matter. Any of them could pop round for tea, not a problem. Because I have this.

[He held up a device only somewhat larger than a pen. It makes a sound at the touch of a button, lighting up vivid green at the end as it did.]

[What he does not realize is that this is all it can do now.]

Another one of your fancy trinkets, huh, Doc?

[Applejack can't even pretend to understand half the things he owns/describes/talks about, but that doesn't prevent her from being interested.]

Alright. I understood the second word, but you lost me at sonic.

'Sonic'. As in 'uses sound'.

[He'll just tap that button a couple more times to hammer the point home. Bzz bzz.]

...So that thing makes a noise, an' that... fixes things?

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Fixes things, takes things apart, locks things, unlocks things, drives things, stops things, opens things, closes things. It does quite a lot to things.

But it doesn't work on wood. Need to make an extension or something for that.

Well don't that sound handy! I bet you could do a whole lot with a tool like that in your belt.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't keep it in my belt, that would be silly. I keep it in my coat pocket.

Whatever works for you, I reckon.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, now that I have this back I'm sure things will go much easier. Might even find a way out of this.

Sycorax? Cybermen? Daleks? Are these monsters from your world?

[Count Twilight interested. Doubly so when she sees that device.]

And why is that object so important? Is it a powerful weapon of some kind? Maybe a sealing device?

[Very interested.]

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-12-24 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Monsters? No, no, no, at least not in the technical sense. In the sense of morality, genocidal tendencies and such, then yes. Yes, monsters might actually be a good word.

And no, it's not a weapon--doesn't maim, wound, or kill. It's a sonic screwdriver.

[identity profile] friendyousohard.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I... think that's an acceptable secondary definition. [And not really one she wants to think about.]

... I'll admit to being a little confused. How does one use sound to perform any sort of action similar to a screwdriver?

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
It just does. Technology, you know. Very, very advanced technology.

Very advanced technology that I'd like to hear more about.

[Hopeful smile.]

I've been told the reason we're all stuck here is technological in nature, and I've been hoping to find some ways to catch up. My own world's a... little behind.

Now, now, I can't just go skipping about giving everyone my secrets, can I? Then everyone'd have a sonic screwdriver, running around sonicing things. It would be sonic anarchy, can't have that.

[identity profile] friendyousohard.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[That's a lot of sonic. Twilight looks rather disappointed though.]

Well... how much can you tell me?

[identity profile] simple-toon.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
WOW! What's that? Is it a laser? A nightlight?

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
No on both, it's a sonic screwdriver.

[identity profile] simple-toon.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Sonic sonic! Is that why it doesn't have a pointy bit like a regular screwdriver? Is that why it glows and goes bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (His best attempt at imitating the noise)

[ Rangiku watches very intently, waiting it for do something else but for now she might as well comment on what a beautiful shade it is to butter the Doctor up into doing something awesome with it!! ]

That is a very lovely shade of green. [ ..... Yep. That is her compliment. ]

I don't get why "angel" is on your list. Aren't angels Christmas-y too?
