So. The universe.

Big place. [He smiled, though it almost looked like more of a smirk.] Huge place, really--even I haven't seen all of it. I might never see all of it, I doubt anyone can see all the universe.

Especially not now that I've really thought about it. Ever do that, just sit there and think about things? I do, all the time. Only with less 'sit there' and more 'run around being brilliant'. But that's not the point, this is the point. We're all from different worlds, all different parallel worlds with their own...their own everything, really. It's like someone photocopied the universe and stuck it up all over the place.

But what does that mean? Where do all of them cross, that's what I'm stuck on. What makes Johto special, what makes it the one point where so many endless universes--possibly all of everything that has ever existed or will ever exist--overlaps?

That is something that doesn't make sense. So I'm going to poke it with a stick until it does.

[He went to shut off the video, but his Abra tugged on the fabric of his jacket to stop him. There was a point to this call, remember?]

Ah, right. Nearly forgot, thank you for that, Adric.

Has anyone heard of a planet called 'Alternia'?

[The talk about parallel words piques England's interest, because it still sounds so bizarre, like one of America's pulp fiction books, but it might just be the closest to reality right now.]

I try not to think about it too much. It gets in the way of things.

[He looks shifty for a moment, while he tries to work out what a photocopier might be. The word is obvious but he wonders if it's one of those bits of technology he doesn't have yet.]

Never heard of Alternia though. It sounds like something from a science fiction book. It probably has robots and scandalously clad women on the cover.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
But it's brilliant, don't you think? All this space and all these worlds with so many different people in them?

...You know, I kind of liked the name. Alternia. Sounds kind of catchy. Well, sounds like 'alternate' which just makes me think whoever named that planet was having a laugh about all these universes.

[personal profile] somanytosofew 2011-06-08 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
It seems rather... untidy to me. [And possibly threatening which he never takes well to.[ Can't deny that it is interesting though. The time differences are frustrating.

I never said it was a bad name, just that it sounds like it's from an American pulp fiction book. I'm not one to complain about women in steel brassieres.

[identity profile] seasalttwilight.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
The name doesn't sound familiar.

[identity profile] whimpering.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
[There's quite a bit of hesitation, but eventually...]

A... Alternia? N-no, I've never heard of anything like that.

[identity profile] psychunaut.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
...I've never heard of it - Alternia, I mean. It must be from another universe - or I just haven't heard of it.
But... you've got a pretty good way of looking at all these universes, y'know. After all, I've been thinking about everything for most of my stay here, but I haven't thought of it from that angle. [Maybe... Maybe...] Maybe if we discover the why, we'll discover the how!

I've never heard of Alternia, but it is a very pretty name.

[Hawk's not sure whether this guy is completely nuts or incredibly brilliant but either way he likes him. Maybe. It's refreshing, whatever it is.]

Is that the way you usually solve philosophical conundrums? Poke it with sticks?

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Frustrating? I think they're fascinating.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Doesn't it? Ah, well. I was hoping to get in touch with some inhabitants, I'd heard they were around here.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
You haven't? Quite a shame, I heard there were some otherplanetary residents in Johto. I'd quite like to get in touch with them.

...Otherplanetary, is that a word? I'm not sure, but it should be. Well, it is now.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I hadn't heard of it which in itself is a very telling thing. I'm told it's meant to be something almost like an alternate Earth.

That's possible. I've usually found that poking the 'why' until it gets quite cross with me usually leads to the 'how' of the whole thing.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it? Alternia, quite the clever little thing. Never heard of a planet with a name like that, but I do like it.

[The answer would be an even amount of both, leaning towards one or the other depending on the day and if there are any fishsticks with custard around.]

That's exactly how I solve all my problems. Sometimes even with literal sticks.

[identity profile] lc-whitequeen.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Alternia?

Hnmm... no, I'm sorry. I can't say that I have.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's starting to seem like few people have. I'm sure someone around here knows-

-...oh hello there, you have pink hair.

[Big case of Attention Deficit OOH SHINY going on here.]

[identity profile] lc-whitequeen.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hello to you too.

[ She touches a strand of her hair, wondering if there was something wrong. ]

Yes, I do. Is something wrong?

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, not at all. I quite like that, it's different. I like different. Different's good.

[identity profile] lc-whitequeen.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you then.

I take that as a compliment.

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Good, you should. Different things are brilliant, and I don't think I've seen many people with pink hair around.

[identity profile] lc-whitequeen.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not many maybe, but I do know they are around.

My friend, Sheryl has unusual hair as well. It is blond, but sometimes--- I could almost swear it looked pink.

By the way, my name is Lacus Clyne.

May I know your name, sir?

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Lacus Clyne? Lovely name, 'Lacus'. Something else I don't quite hear every day.

I'm the Doctor.

[identity profile] lc-whitequeen.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. You are too kind, Doctor---?

[ She is still waiting for a name. ]

[identity profile] usedreturn.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 03:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, just the Doctor. All there is to it.
